Latvian international Dario Šits opened his account for the new season in the Dutch second tier on Friday evening, but his and Estonian midfielder Martin Vetkal’s FC Dordrecht were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw away to RKC Waalwijk after conceding a late equaliser.
After providing an assist for Vetkal in last week’s season opener, Šits continued his impressive start by finding the net in the 12th minute to score his first goal of the campaign. Both Baltic players were once again named in Dordrecht’s starting lineup.
RKC Waalwijk restored parity in the second half, but Dordrecht regained the lead in the 73rd minute and looked on course for all three points. However, the hosts struck in the first minute of stoppage time to rescue a draw.
Šits completed the full 90 minutes and was also shown a yellow card, while Vetkal played 65 minutes before being substituted, also picking up a booking.
Dordrecht have started the new Eerste Divisie season with one win and one draw. Their next fixture comes next Friday when they host Roda JC.
