Grobiņa will move next week’s home fixture to Jūrmala and have registered the signing of veteran central midfielder Artūrs Zjuzins.
Updated information published on the Latvian Football Federation website shows Grobiņa’s Tonybet Virslīga match against Ogre United will be played at Sloka Stadium on Monday. The change comes after Daugava stadium in Liepāja – the home ground of both Grobiņan and FK Liepāja – was affected by damage linked to the Prāta Vētra concert. The extent of damage to the grass is still unclear but it is understood to be severe.
Additionally, the transfer register of Latvian Football Federation lists Artūrs Zjuzins, 35, as a Grobiņa player. The Jūrmala-born midfielder has made 62 senior appearances for Latvia, scoring nine goals, though he has not played for the national side since March 2024.
Zjuzins is a three-time Latvian champion, winning the title with Ventspils in 2007 and later with RFS in 2021 and 2023, with whom he also played in the UEFA Conference League group stage. He has also had spells in Slovakia and russia, and played in the Virslīga for Riga before a longer stint at RFS, where he scored 13 goals in 110 league matches.
He spent time in Cyprus’ second tier at the start of 2024, then joined Liepāja before ending that year at Daugavpils. In early 2025, he moved to Norway with fifth-tier club Nybergsund.
Grobiņa sit eighth in the Virslīga with 20 points from 22 matches, four points behind Super Nova and three ahead of Tukums 2000. The next derby between Grobiņa and Liepāja is scheduled for 21 August.
