Černiauskas becomes the head coach for Kauno Žalgiris

Eivinas Černiauskas

FK Kauno Žalgiris announced they had appointed Eivinas Černiauskas as the new head coach. Eivinas served as an assistant manager for Šaulius Širmelis last season, who left the team after this season.

The 40-year-old has also had a stint as the head coach of the Marijampolė “Sūduva” reserve team, and before that, he was a long-time assistant manager to Vladimir Cheburin.

“After extensive discussions and evaluations of various candidates, we decided to pursue the future with Eivinas. From our first conversations, it was clear he has the ambition to be a head coach. His extensive experience with clubs in Vilnius and Marijampolė, along with his championship titles, gives us hope that we are nurturing a promising new coach,” said club president Mantas Kalnietis. As an assistant coach at “Sūduva,” Černiauskas won the A Lyga title three times, the Lithuanian Cup once, and the Super Cup twice. He then spent two years in the coaching staff of Vilnius “Žalgiris,” where he became a national champion and won the cup.

“I appreciate this opportunity and am excited about the challenges ahead. Much work is needed, and we will make many changes to the team. Our goal is to build a competitive lineup and improve on this season’s performance,” said the new head coach of Kaunas Žalgiris.
