Italian Serie C club Savoia 1908 have announced the signing of Latvian goalkeeper Klāvs Bethers on a two-year contract following the expiry of his deal with fellow Italian side Catania.

The 22-year-old spent the past four seasons with Catania after joining the Sicilian club in 2022. During his time there, Bethers played an important role in helping the club secure promotion back to Serie C and made a total of 67 appearances in all competitions, keeping 26 clean sheets.

However, the Latvian was unable to add to those numbers last season after serving as Catania’s second-choice goalkeeper and failing to make an official first-team appearance.

Bethers will now continue his career with Savoia 1908, who secured promotion to Serie C after winning Italy’s fourth-tier championship last season. The upcoming campaign will mark the club’s first season back in the Italian third division since 2014/15.

Although Savoia have never competed in Serie A, they have spent two seasons in Serie B, with their most recent appearance in Italy’s second tier coming during the 1999/2000 campaign.

A product of Liepāja Football School, Bethers has been playing in Italy since January 2022. Before joining Catania, he also represented Citta di Sant’Agata and Piacenza.
