Lithuanian striker Gytis Paulauskas has officially continued his career with one of South Korea’s most successful clubs, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, joining the K League side on a six-month loan from fellow South Korean club Jeju SK.
The 26-year-old forward from Vilnius is in his first season in South Korea. He made seven K League appearances for Jeju this season, recording one assist before completing his move to Jeonbuk.
Jeonbuk, ten-time K League champions, turned to Paulauskas after first-choice striker Thiago suffered an injury, forcing the club to strengthen its attacking options ahead of a demanding second half of the season.
In its official announcement, the club stated that it selected Paulauskas “as a solution to minimize the gap in the front line following the recent temporary absence of key striker Thiago due to injury, and to handle a tight schedule including a rebound in the league in the second half of the season, the Korea Cup, and the AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE).”
Paulauskas also shared his thoughts after completing the move. “It is an honor to join Jeonbuk Hyundai, the most prestigious club in the K League. I will definitely contribute to victory with dedicated play on the field to live up to the fans’ expectations.”
Jeonbuk, who won the K League title last season, currently sit third in the league standings with the campaign approaching its halfway point, six points behind leaders FC Seoul. The club will also compete in the AFC Champions League Elite, with the league phase set to begin in mid-September.
Paulauskas began his professional career with FK Riteriai before playing abroad in Ukraine, Albania, Georgia, Slovakia, and most recently South Korea. At international level, he has earned 29 caps for the Lithuania national team, scoring two goals.
