Ogre United have continued strengthening their squad during the summer transfer window after registering Ukrainian midfielder Arsentiy Doroshenko, who spent last season playing in the Ukrainian Premier League.
The 25-year-old will be playing outside his homeland for the first time in his career. Last season, Doroshenko made 22 league appearances for FC Poltava, scoring once and providing two assists during the club’s debut campaign in the Ukrainian top flight.
It was also the midfielder’s first season at the highest level in Ukraine, having previously represented Nyva Ternopil, Kramatorsk, Podillya, Kolos Kovalivka, Minaj and his hometown club Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the country’s second and third divisions.
Ogre United, who currently sit bottom of the Tonybet Virslīga in their debut top-flight campaign, have been among the busiest clubs since the summer transfer window opened. Doroshenko becomes the club’s fifth signing in just two days as they look to strengthen their squad in a bid to climb away from the foot of the table.
The newcomers include Latvian full-backs Jānis Grīnbergs and Aleksandrs Molotkovs, both arriving from FK Liepāja, centre-back Aleksejs Kudeļkins, who recently returned from a half-season spell in Romania, and German attacking midfielder Leif Estevez Fernandez, who spent the previous four years playing in Lithuania.
Ogre United secured their first-ever Tonybet Virslīga victory last week with a memorable away win over FS Jelgava and will look to get their second when they host FK Tukums 2000 later today.
