Tonybet Virslīga side Ogre United have continued their busy activity in the summer transfer window by signing German attacking midfielder Leif Estevez Fernandez, who arrives after several successful seasons in the Lithuanian top flight.

The 29-year-old spent the past season and a half with FK Riteriai before the Vilnius club was expelled from the Toplyga earlier this year due to financial and licensing issues. Fernandez made 14 league appearances this season before becoming a free agent following the club’s removal from the competition.

Overall, the Germany-born midfielder has been playing in Lithuania since 2022, representing Hegelmann, Džiugas Telšiai and Riteriai. During that time, he made 98 Toplyga appearances, scoring five goals and providing 14 assists.

His most productive campaign came last season when he played a key role in Riteriai’s attack, contributing two goals and ten assists in 35 league matches.

Before moving to Lithuania, Fernandez spent several years playing in Germany’s lower divisions and also enjoyed a four-year spell in American college soccer.

Fernandez becomes Ogre United’s fourth registered signing on the opening day of the summer transfer window. The club have already strengthened their squad with the arrivals of Latvian defender Aleksandrs Kudeļkins and full-backs Jānis Grīnbergs and Aleksandrs Molotkovs as they continue their fight to climb away from the bottom of the Tonybet Virslīga table.
