Tonybet Virslīga newcomers Ogre United have strengthened their defence by signing Latvian centre-back Aleksandrs Kudeļkins, who returns to the Latvian top flight after spending the past six months in Romania.
The 24-year-old defender began the year by joining Romanian second-tier side Metalul Buzău after making 129 Virslīga appearances for BFC Daugavpils. During his spell in Romania, Kudeļkins featured in five matches.
Although Metalul Buzău were interested in keeping the Latvian beyond the end of the season, the club’s head coach admitted to Romanian media that they were unable to meet the player’s financial demands, resulting in Kudeļkins becoming a free agent this summer.
The Daugavpils football academy graduate has now been registered in the Latvian Football Federation’s transfer system as a new Ogre United player and will look to strengthen a side battling to avoid relegation in its debut Virslīga campaign.
Ogre United currently sit bottom of the Tonybet Virslīga table with seven points, nine behind ninth-placed FK Grobiņa. Kudeļkins could make his debut as early as tomorrow when Ogre United host FK Tukums 2000.
