The current Virsliga leaders FC RFS have acquired former Riga FC and Valmiera FC goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper has signed a 1.5-year deal with an option to extend for a further year.

Matrevics has signed a contract until the end of the 2027 season

Back in 2022, Matrevics became the Latvian champion with Valmiera FC. He has 17 caps for the Latvia national team, in seven of which he has kept a clean sheet.

In 2015, Matrevics joined the West Ham academy, where he spent three seasons and played alongside current English international and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.

The Latvian continued his career in England until 2021, when he returned to Latvia and joined Valmiera. During the two seasons there, Matrevics made 62 appearances, keeping a clean sheet 22 times. He also played a key role in the 2022 championship season, helping Valmiera clinch its first-ever Virsliga title.

After the title-winning season, Matrevics joined Riga FC, where he won the Latvian Cup. At the beginning of 2025, he moved to FK Auda, but during the summer transfer window left for the Czech higher-league club Dukla Prague. The Latvian played 18 games for the Czech capital club. Now Matrevics has returned to Latvia and will henceforth represent RFS.
