The final four Lithuanian Cup quarterfinalists were confirmed on Wednesday, with four of the six remaining Toplyga clubs continuing their run in the competition, while FA Šiauliai escaped with a late 2-1 comeback win against lower-league side Ataka Vilnius.

FA Šiauliai came close to embarrassment, needing two very late goals to survive against lower-league side Ataka Vilnius. The hosts took the lead in the 38th minute through Pijus Srebalius, who previously spent several seasons with Banga Gargždai, and were only minutes away from a major cup upset.

However, Šiauliai rescued themselves in dramatic fashion. Substitute Divine Naah equalised in the 87th minute, before another player off the bench, 19-year-old Ugnius Vaitiekaitis, scored in the first minute of stoppage time. It was Vaitiekaitis’ first goal for the Šiauliai first team and it sent the Toplyga club into the quarterfinals with a 2-1 win.

In the standout tie between two Toplyga top-four sides, Džiugas Telšiai gained revenge for their league defeat against Banga Gargždai just five days earlier. This time the teams could not be separated in regular time, with the match eventually going to penalties.

The home side from Telšiai proved perfect from the spot, converting all four of their penalties. Banga, meanwhile, started well by scoring their first three attempts, but missed their final two kicks. That meant the 2024 Lithuanian Cup winners were eliminated already in the round of 16, while Džiugas marched on to the quarterfinals.

The title defenders FK Panevėžys also progressed, although their 3-0 win over Pirma Lyga side Atmosfera was far from straightforward. The lower-league visitors kept the deficit at just 0-1 until the 72nd minute, before late goals from Elivelton and Marko Bačanin finally secured Panevėžys’ place in the next round.

In another all-Toplyga clash, two-time recent cup finalist FC Hegelmann were eliminated in the round of 16 after a 0-2 away defeat against in-form FK TransINVEST.

Hegelmann’s evening became much harder just before halftime when Vilius Armanavičius received a red card. TransINVEST took full advantage after the break, scoring twice in a 12-minute spell through Mykola Musolitin and Stefan Milošević to seal their passage into the last eight.

The promoted side, who lifted the Lithuanian Cup in 2023, continue their impressive season on multiple fronts.

These four clubs join Tuesday’s winners FK Kauno Žalgiris, BFA Vilnius, FK Minija and DFK Dainava Alytus in the quarterfinal stage.
