Latvian international Raimonds Krollis scored the decisive goal as Slovan Liberec beat Jablonec 2-1 away in the final round of the Czech top-flight regular season to secure a place in the championship group.
Liberec went into the weekend with unfinished business, with Sigma Olomouc level on points but facing leaders Slavia Praha and holding a far inferior goal difference. The battle for sixth was intense – Olomouc took a surprise early lead in Prague, while Jablonec missed a penalty at the other end, before Olomouc were reduced to 10 men as former BFC Daugavpils midfielder Tumaní Diakité put Liberec ahead in the parallel match.
Krollis secured the result with a second half goal, finding the net with a precise finish off the underside of the crossbar to make it 2-0. Jablonec pulled one back late on but Liberec held on, while 10-man Olomouc eventually lost 2-1 to Slavia.
Latvian striker has now scored in three of Liberec’s four matches in April and has eight goals in 24 league appearances this season. He was substituted with nine minutes remaining.
