Estonia’s women secured a second successive 2-1 victory in World Cup qualifying as Lisette Tammik struck deep into stoppage time to beat Lithuania in a Baltic derby.
After Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Liechtenstein, Estonia had to come back from behind once again. Lithuania took the lead 30 minutes in when Viltė Švarcaitė found the net in a first half that otherwise offered little in the way of chances.
Estonia, however, equaliser before the half-time whistle as Mari Liis Lillemäe produced a fine finish in the 42nd minute.
Lithuania pushed for a winner after the restart and even came close when Ugnė Lazdauskaitė hit the post, while Estonia were also kept in the game by their goalkeeper and Lithuania’s wayward finishing.
The match looked set to end level until the hosts broke forward in added time and Lisette Tammik scored in the 90+4 minute to secure all three points, beating goalkeeper Meda Šeškutė.
In the group, Bosnia and Herzegovina remain top on nine points after a 6-0 win over Liechtenstein. Estonia are second, level with Lithuania on seven points.
