On Monday evening, the Lithuanian men’s football team concluded its campaign in this season’s UEFA Nations League tournament.
In their final match, the team, coached by Edgars Jankauskas, lost 0-1 to Kosovo. As a result, the Lithuanians finished fourth in their group and were relegated to Division D, where they will compete in the 2026 tournament.
The match began poorly for Lithuania. Within the first five minutes, a defensive error by Edgaras Utkus led to a goal for Kosovo, giving them an early lead. Following the goal, the home team remained slightly more active, but the Lithuanian squad gradually regained control and started to possess the ball more. Just before halftime, Kosovo’s Muharrem Jashari received a direct red card after a VAR review for a harsh foul, which gave Lithuania a numerical advantage.
After the break, the players under Jankauskas dominated possession and created several dangerous chances. Gvidas Gineitis struck the crossbar with a powerful shot, and Vykintas Slivka had a close shot saved by the opposing goalkeeper.
Unfortunately, despite the opportunities they generated, the Lithuanian national team could not capitalize on them and ultimately had to accept defeat as the final whistle blew.
