In the opening match of Premium Liiga Matchday 6, FC Kuressaare nearly let a three-goal lead slip but ultimately held on to defeat Harju JK Laagri 3-2, securing their second win of the season.
Coming into the game, Kuressaare sat ninth with three points, while Harju were fourth with nine, having also dominated this fixture last season.
The match itself started with an early Kuressaare goal. In the 8th minute, Demidov found Talu on the right, whose pass into the box was finished from close range by Taavi Jürisoo to make it 1-0.
Harju struggled to respond, failing to create clear chances, with their best effort coming from a set piece that was comfortably handled. The first half remained low on quality, with Kuressaare the more composed side.
After the break, the pattern continued, and Kuressaare extended their lead midway through the second half. In the 68th minute, Demidov played a precise pass through several defenders to Talu, who finished calmly to double the advantage.
Just three minutes later, Jürisoo added his second of the match, cutting in from the left and curling an excellent shot into the top corner to make it 3-0, seemingly putting the result beyond doubt.
However, Harju responded late to turn the game into a tense finish. In the 82nd minute, Reinhard Reimaa headed home from a Rudenko corner, and in the 88th minute, Kristjan Kriis capitalised on a loose ball in the box to fire into the roof of the net, reducing the deficit to 3-2. Harju pushed for an equaliser in stoppage time and came close, but Kuressaare managed to hold on and secure a historic first-ever win over Harju.
