The Estonian National football team played a 0:0 draw against the Azerbaijan National team, which secured them survival in the Nations League C.

Compared to a previous game against Sweden, the manager made six changes in the starting lineup. From notable changes, Premium Liiga top scorer Alex Tamm from Nomme Kalju was replaced by veteran forward Henri Anier. At the same time, Mattias Kait (Rapid Bucuresti) missed this international window because of an injury.

In the first seconds of the game, Henri Anier had the chance to score a goal—a long ball from Michael Schjönning-Larsen got to Anier, who, with a one-touch, lobbed it over the goalkeeper, but the ball hit the crossbar. It ended up being the best Estonian chance to score. Azerbaijan also hit the crossbar at the end of the first half as Caferquliyev took a well-strickked free kick from around 25 meters. Estonians were under much pressure in the second half, but Spanish La Liga’s side Valladolid goalkeeper Karl Hein made some great saves to keep the game tied, as Estonians held on to a hard-fought point.

Estonia has collected four points in the Nations League group after five games; this was the first Azerbaijan point. As the match between these nations speaks in favor of Estonia (3:1 win on the 11th of October), they can’t overtake Estonia in the last round. Thus, Estonia secured a spot in the Nations League C.

Estonia ends their Nations League campaign on the 19th of November, when they will face Slovakia in Bratislava.
