Lithuanian Toplyga side Hegelmann signed off their pre-season programme with a 2-1 win against Latvian Virsliga side FK Grobiņa in their final friendly.
The Toplyga club went ahead in the first half when veteran captain Vilius Armanavičius delivered a dangerous ball into the area, forcing an own goal from the visitors. Hegelmann then doubled their advantage after the break as Dominykas Pašilys powered in a header, before Fjodorovs pulled one back for Grobiņa late on from a corner.
Hegelmann’s assistant manager Tadas Vilkevičius said that while the result mattered, he was more encouraged by the team’s response and cohesion. “It’s nice to finish preparations with a win. I’m happiest that the team stayed like a fist – one for all and all for one,” he said. “After a difficult start, from around the 30th minute until the end the lads showed solid football against a tough, physical opponent.”
Vilkevičius added that the squad came through the training load without serious injuries and has shown steady progress physically, tactically and technically. Hegelmann open their season on 22nd February in Marijampolė against Banga and Grobiņa will travel across country to Daugavpils on 7th March, as Latvian season starts later.
