Latvian Virslīga club BFC Daugavpils have announced the signing of Nigerian winger Joel Yakubu on loan from Czech side Slovan Liberec until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old joined Slovan Liberec in the summer of 2024 after moving to Europe from Nigeria. Since his arrival, Yakubu has featured exclusively for the club’s reserve team and has yet to make his debut for the first team.

Over the past season and a half, Yakubu has made 34 appearances for Slovan Liberec’s reserve side, which competes in the Czech Third League. During that spell, he contributed six goals and six assists.

Daugavpils, who finished fourth in the Virslīga last season, have developed a growing working relationship with Slovan Liberec. In September last year, the Latvian club sold one of their key players, Toumani Diakité, to the Czech side for a transfer fee. The 20-year-old Ivorian midfielder has since become a regular starter in Liberec’s first-team lineup.
