Panevėžys continued their strong pre-season run against Latvian clubs as they edged newly relegated FK Metta 2-1 in their fifth friendly of the winter.
The Toplyga side struck first in the eighth minute when Salomon Kouadio picked out Edvin Muratovic, who finished on the second attempt after Metta had threatened early with a header that drifted narrowly wide. Metta levelled in the 22nd minute with a headed goal of their own, and Muratovic went close to restoring the lead soon after, but was unable to convert.
Panevėžys regained control quickly after the break as Kouadio provided his second assist of the match, this time for Oleksandr Kurtsev. The Ukrainian found the net against his former club to make it 2-1, while Kwadwo Asamoah came close to extending the advantage later, only to be denied by the post.
Panevėžys’ final friendly is scheduled against TransINVEST on Wednesday, 11th February at 14:00.
