Latvian and Estonian clubs met in a pre-season friendly today at the Skonto Stadium indoor hall, where FK Liepāja recorded a 3-1 victory over Paide Linnameeskond in their first friendly match of the off-season.
Liepāja made a strong start and took the lead by capitalising on a defensive mistake. After a turnover Joseph Ede Oloko fired a shot on goal that was only partially saved by the visiting goalkeeper, and Bruno Melnis reacted quickest to the rebound, scoring Liepāja’s first goal of the pre-season in the 17th minute.
Early in the second half, Liepāja doubled their advantage when a long pass found Kyvon Leidsman, and the Dutch forward finished confidently in a one-on-one situation to make it 2-0.
Midway through the second half, Paide reduced the deficit after being awarded a penalty. The spot kick was converted with confidence by 19-year-old Gambian forward Abdourahman Badamosi.
However, Liepāja restored their two-goal lead late in the match when Abiodun Ogunniyi produced a superb strike into the top corner, sealing a 3-1 win for the Liepāja side.
