Virslīga club FS Jelgava continue to strengthen their squad, announcing the signings of two Latvian players – Roberts Meļķis and Jegors Novikovs.
The 23-year-old winger Roberts Meļķis is a graduate of the Liepāja Football School. He began last season with FK Liepāja, making nine Virslīga appearances and registering one assist. In the summer, Meļķis moved on loan to fellow top-flight side FC RFS, where he featured mainly for the club’s reserve team but also made one first-team appearance, scoring a goal in that match.
Earlier in his career, Meļķis represented FK Grobiņa and FK Tukums 2000. In total, he has played 75 matches in the Virslīga, scoring 13 goals.
The second new arrival is Jegors Novikovs, a 22-year-old full-back who came up within Dinamo Riga and FK Metta academies. Last season, Novikovs played for FK Auda, making 11 Virslīga appearances.
A former Latvia U-21 international, Novikovs has now accumulated 109 Virslīga matches, scoring two goals during his time with FK Metta and FK Auda.
FS Jelgava had previously announced the signings of other young Latvian players, including Kristofers Reķis (FK Metta), Maksims Semeško (Riga FC), and Alans Kangars (FK Liepāja), as the club continues to build its squad for the upcoming season.
