Virslīga club FS Jelgava have announced the signing of Latvia U-21 international Alans Kangars, who became a free agent this winter.
The 20-year-old defender is a product of the FK Metta academy. Over the past two seasons, he was contracted to FK Liepāja, where he made his Virslīga debut in 2024, appearing in 25 league matches.
Last season, Kangars was loaned to FK Metta, delivering a productive campaign with three goals in 26 appearances, although his contributions were not enough to keep Metta in the top flight – they were relegated for the first time since 2012.
A versatile player, Kangars can operate as a centre-back, full-back, and has even played as a defensive midfielder during his time at Liepāja. He becomes FS Jelgava’s third signing of the off-season, following the arrivals of defender Maksims Semeško and fellow Metta academy graduate Kristofers Reķis.
Kangars has represented Latvia at all youth levels, serving as captain of the U-19 team, and has made three appearances for the U-21 national team.
