In a press-conference today the Lithuanian Football Federation announced that the new Lithuanian U-21 National team manager will be former FC Hegelmann coach Andrius Skerla.
The appointment was officially confirmed today during a press conference held by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), with president Edgaras Stankevičius and technical director Deividas Šemberas outlining a series of strategic changes across the federation’s youth teams.
For 48-year-old Skerla, the role is both familiar and symbolic. He previously worked with the U21 national team between 2017 and 2018, serving as an assistant coach under Danish specialist Carit Falch. Since then, his coaching profile has grown significantly. Over the past five seasons, Skerla has been in charge of FC Hegelmann, leading the club through its most stable and successful period. His work was recognized in 2024, when he was voted Lithuania’s Men’s Team Coach of the Year.
LFF president Edgaras Stankevičius highlighted the importance of Skerla’s appointment, emphasizing the value of his accumulated experience and his understanding of Lithuanian football. The federation views Skerla as a key figure in shaping a cohesive pathway from youth teams to the men’s national squad.
Skerla takes over from Rokas Garastas, whose move is part of a broader restructuring rather than a dismissal. Garastas will now focus on leading the U15 national team (players born in 2011), a decision linked to Lithuania’s long-term preparations for hosting the 2028 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
