Lithuanian women’s football powerhouse and 2025 Women’s A Lyga Champions FC Gintra have appointed Artūras Sikorskij as the club’s new head coach, with the Lithuanian manager set to take over ahead of the 2026 season.
Sikorskij has spent the past two years working in the country’s top women’s division, most recently guiding TransINVEST’s women’s team to a second-place finish after winning bronze medals in his debut season with the club. He replaces Gintra’s previous head coach – Englishman Steve Beeks – as the most successful club of the past two decades prepares for the next chapter of its domestic and international campaigns.
The 30-year-old began his coaching career at just 18 with FK Granitas in Naujoji Vilnia, where he spent more than a decade working with boys’ teams from U5 to U15 level. In 2021, Sikorskij moved to the FK Žalgiris academy, coaching U14 and U11 sides over a two-year period, before a brief spell at FK Riteriai in 2023 with the club’s U16 and U18 teams.
His focus has shifted to women’s football in recent seasons. Alongside his club duties, Sikorskij has been involved in the Lithuanian Football Federation’s Regional Talent Centres project since 2023, further strengthening his profile within the domestic game.
Speaking after his appointment, Sikorskij admitted the offer came as a surprise. “I won’t lie – I was genuinely surprised, because people always said Gintra only looked for foreign coaches,” he said. “It was very pleasant to receive such an offer. It means that over the past two years in women’s football I must have done something right and caught the attention of the champions. The feeling is very good, but there is a lot of work ahead. Until recently I had very different objectives, and from today my main goal is to continue Gintra’s dominance in Lithuania.”
Gintra, the most decorated club in Lithuanian women’s football, consistently sets the highest ambitions domestically as well as in the Baltic League and UEFA Women’s Champions League. The club’s management highlighted Sikorskij’s work ethic, football philosophy, trust in young players and experience in women’s football as a strong match for Gintra’s long-term strategy.
“We are pleased that after a break a Lithuanian specialist will once again take charge of the team,” the club said in a statement. “Artūras is a respected coach within the women’s football community, with solid experience at A Lyga level and very respectable results. His approach to work, discipline and player development aligns with our values and vision. We believe his arrival will strengthen our structure and help us take another step forward, both in terms of results and the development of young players.”
Gintra have already announced a contract extension for defender Tereza Romanovskaja, with further squad news expected in the coming weeks. The team are scheduled to begin preparations for the new season on January 12.
