
Nākotnes Līga champions Ogre United have officially announced that Georgian specialist Aleksandr Rekhviashvili has signed a two-year deal to lead the team in their historic Virslīga debut season in 2026.
The 51-year-old head coach is a well-known figure in Latvian football, having been one of the league’s biggest stars during his playing career. Rekhviashvili spent nine seasons in the Latvian top flight representing clubs such as Skonto Riga, FK Ventspils, and FC Jūrmala. Most notably, he won the Virslīga title six straight season’s with Skonto Riga.
Ogre United secured promotion in dramatic fashion on the final matchday of the Nākotnes Līga after defeating Mārupe SC and benefiting from dropped points by their closest rivals, earning the championship title and a place in next season’s top division.
The club described Rekhviashvili as a highly respected candidate whose wide-ranging experience, charisma, and modern football philosophy made him the ideal choice to lead the project. Ogre’s management highlighted his background across multiple football roles as a key factor in his appointment.
Rekhviashvili, who holds Latvian citizenship and speaks Latvian, previously worked in his home country of Georgia as sporting director of Dinamo Tbilisi. In recent seasons, he has been working in Latvia as assistant coach at SK Super Nova, where he won the Nākotnes Līga title, while this season while working as an assistant for FK Auda he lifted the Latvian Cup.
