Following announcement of Curro Torres’ departure from the hot seat at FCI Levadia two days ago, the owner of the club – Viktor Levada – expressed gratitude for Torres’ work but acknowledged the project fell well short of his expectations.

We thank Curro for what he did. Unfortunately, his last season was unsuccessful, but several players improved under him, and our playing style became faster,” Levada told Soccernet.ee. “We’re very grateful to him.

According to Levada, the season collapsed after the Conference League third qualifying round against Differdange. Levadia won the first leg, but a disastrous second leg in Luxembourg — where the match was level in the 87th minute before slipping away 1–3 after extra time — derailed everything.

It was very shameful,” Levada said. “The draw suited us, then they scored, came extra time… and we couldn’t pull ourselves together. We hoped it wouldn’t affect our domestic league, but unfortunately it did. The team couldn’t cope with the period after Luxembourg.”

Levadia went on to finish second behind arch-rivals Flora with the owner admitting that the season was emotionally draining.

It was difficult… We had big ambitions to reach a European group stage and we built the budget accordingly. We had two quality players for every position, made large expenditures,” Levada said. “But we would have taken silver in the Premium Liiga even without such a budget. Unfortunately, that’s football.

Despite the disappointment, Levada promised imminent positive news about the club’s future.

There was a lot of frustration after the season, but tomorrow there will be good news about the new year,” he said. Asked whether that meant a new head coach, new players or new sponsors, Levada replied with a laugh: “A bit of everything.” He added only that “restructuring is coming, and new blood will arrive.
