Latvian Virslīga club FS Jelgava have announced their first signing of the off-season, completing the acquisition of former FK Metta attacker Kristofers Reķis.

The 22-year-old attacking player is a product of the FK Metta academy and spent his entire professional career with the club prior to this move. During the most recent season, Reķis featured in 34 matches, scoring six goals and providing one assist, though his efforts were ultimately not enough to prevent Metta from being relegated from the top division.

Following FK Metta’s drop to the second tier, Reķis has decided to take on a new challenge by joining fellow Virslīga side FS Jelgava as a free agent ahead of the new season.

Across four seasons with Metta’s senior team, Reķis made 107 appearances in the Virslīga, finding the net 11 times.

FS Jelgava finished the previous campaign in sixth place and see the former Latvia U-21 international – who has earned 14 caps at youth international level – as a key addition as they prepare for the upcoming season.
