Estonian forward Oliver Jürgens has found a new home in Albania, signing with KF Teuta after several months without a club. The 21-year-old made his debut on Saturday, coming off the bench in the 62nd minute to help his new team secure a 1–0 away win over Vora FK. Six minutes after his introduction, captain Blerim Kotobelli scored the game’s only goal, giving Teuta three points in the Albanian Superliga’s 12th round. The club currently sits fifth in the ten-team table.
Founded more than a century ago, Teuta is one of Albania’s oldest football institutions and a founding member of the country’s championship in 1930. The Durrës-based side has won the Albanian league title twice, in 1994 and 2021, and lifted the domestic cup four times, most recently in 2020. Their most recent European campaign came in 2021, when they were eliminated by Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers after earlier facing Sheriff Tiraspol and Inter Club d’Escaldes.
For Jürgens, Teuta represents his fifth country and ninth club abroad. Having risen through the ranks of several Estonian sides—including Lasnamäe Ajax, Levadia, Tallinna Kalev, Harju JK, Nõmme Kalju, and Nõmme United—he made headlines in 2019 by scoring 28 goals in 17 matches in Estonia’s Esiliiga B before moving to Italy’s Hellas Verona. His youth career in Italy also saw him feature for Roma, Inter, and Torino.
Jürgens later played for Újpest in Hungary, Dunajská Streda in Slovakia, and Ponferradina and Elche B in Spain, before leaving Elche in June 2024. His last competitive match before this weekend had come on 20 April, marking a seven-month break from the pitch.
The forward, who earned his Estonia senior debut in November 2023, has represented the national team in matches against Austria and Sweden. His last appearance came in the 1–5 defeat to Poland in the Euro 2024 playoffs. Although he received call-ups to the U21 national team later that year, Jürgens declined, saying he wished to focus on his club career.
Now, with a fresh start in Albania, Jürgens looks to reignite his career and prove himself once again at the professional level.
