Latvian Virslīga runners-up FC RFS have confirmed their first signing of the offseason – 18-year-old Nigerian Shina Kumater, a player already familiar to Latvian football fans after spending half a season with BFC Daugavpils.

Kumater, who is capable of operating both centrally and on the left flank, joined Daugavpils during the summer window and quickly became a useful attacking piece. He featured in 10 Virslīga matches during the final stretch of the season, providing two assists as the Latgale side secured an impressive fourth-place finish. Despite the strong league campaign, Daugavpils narrowly missed out on European qualification, as fifth-placed FK Auda claimed the last available spot by winning the Latvian Cup.

Before arriving in Latvia, Kumater gained significant first-team experience in Nigeria’s top flight. With Nasarawa United, he made 33 league appearances, scoring three goals and supplying five assists in the 2024/25 season

Now, RFS who finished second in Virslīga and exited the Latvian Cup in the semifinals have moved swiftly to secure the young full-back’s services, signing him to a long-term three-year contract, with an option to extend.
