According to tv3.lt sources, Vilnius Žalgiris is set to have a new majority owner – businessman Tadas Burgaila, who in recent weeks has been actively seeking to join the club’s ownership group.

Discussions about Burgaila’s potential involvement with the legendary capital club had been ongoing for several weeks. When negotiations with Vilma Venslovaitienė stalled, Žalgiris director Mindaugas Kasperūnas, public figure Andrius Tapinas, and Vilnius mayor Valdas Benkunskas even held a press conference, claiming that Burgaila was not part of the majority shareholder group and warning that the club could face bankruptcy due to a multimillion-euro deficit.

According to tv3.lt, Burgaila has now reached a deal with Mindaugas Nikoličius to purchase his three ownership shares in the club. Tv3.lt sources indicate that the businessman has also held productive talks with representatives of Vilma Venslovaitienė.

Nikoličius currently owns 3 of the club’s 14 shares, with Venslovaitienė also holding three. However, one of her shares remains under court seizure while a pre-trial investigation continues regarding alleged document forgery.

In recent days, Burgaila according to tv3.lt was also spotted in Łódź, where former Žalgiris executive Nikoličius now works as sporting director of Widzew Łódź, suggesting Burgaila is already strengthening international ties for the Lithuanian champions.

If the deal goes through, Tadas Burgaila will become the club’s largest shareholder, marking a major shift in ownership and a potential new era for Vilnius Žalgiris – both on and off the pitch.
