As part of their ongoing preparations for the upcoming UEFA European Futsal Championship, the Lithuanian national futsal team faced Hungary on Tuesday evening in the first of two friendly matches away from home. Despite taking the lead twice, Lithuania ultimately fell 2-5. The two sides will meet again on Wednesday at 17:00 for the return fixture.

Both matches serve as valuable tune-ups ahead of the UEFA Futsal Euro 2026, which will be hosted across Kaunas (Lithuania), Rīga (Latvia), and Ljubljana (Slovenia) at the end of January.

The encounter started brightly for Lithuania. Less than a minute into the game, following a clever throw-in routine and a precise cross from Justinas Zagurskas, Artūras Juchno turned the ball in from close range to give the visitors an early 1-0 advantage.

Lithuania maintained their lead for nearly half of the first period, but Hungary managed to level midway through the half. Just before the break, Lukas Sendžikas unleashed a powerful strike to restore Lithuania’s advantage, sending the team into halftime ahead 2-1.

The second half, however, swung firmly in Hungary’s favor. Within the span of a single minute, the hosts struck twice to overturn the deficit and move ahead 3-2. Lithuania pressed for an equalizer, creating several promising opportunities, but failed to capitalize. In the closing stages, Hungary added two more goals to secure a convincing 5-2 victory in the opening friendly.

Both nations are gearing up for the UEFA Futsal Euro 2026, set to take place from January 21 to February 7. Lithuania, one of the tournament’s co-hosts, will face Armenia, Ukraine, and Czechia in their group as they aim to make a strong impression on home soil.
