SV Werder Bremen announced via social media that their Estonian national team goalkeeper, Karl Jakob Hein, left morning training early after being struck directly in the face by a ball. The incident occurred about 30 minutes into the session when striker Keke Topp accidentally delivered the ball at close range that made contact with Hein’s face.

Werder’s physiotherapist, Adis Lović, assessed Hein immediately, and as a precaution the 23-year-old was withdrawn from the training ground under his own power and directed to the dressing room.

Werder have opened the Bundesliga season with three wins, two draws and three losses, placing them 9th with 11 points. Hein has featured in two league games this season while first-choice keeper Mio Backhaus has appeared in the other six.

The club’s next match comes on 1st November, away at 1. F SV Mainz 05 (16th place, four points).

Werder stated they are monitoring Hein’s condition and will provide updates ahead of that fixture.
