Swedbank and Luminor have jointly provided a €100 million syndicated loan to Vilniaus daugiafunkcis kompleksas, a company owned by real estate developer Hanner. The funds will be used to finance the construction of the National Stadium and a multifunctional complex in Vilnius.
Under the agreement, Swedbank, acting as the transaction agent, will contribute €65 million in financing, while Luminor will provide €35 million.
One of Lithuania’s largest sports complexes
According to Ignas Mačeika, a member of Swedbank’s Management Board and Head of Corporate Banking, the financing will enable Hanner to complete one of the most complex development projects in the country.
“The successful cooperation between Swedbank and Hanner has lasted for more than 20 years, during which we have jointly implemented many significant, large-scale projects. This long-term partnership and our shared expertise provide a strong foundation for the success of this important project. We are confident that the 18,000-seat UEFA Category IV National Stadium and the multifunctional complex will have a lasting impact on the sports and cultural life of Vilnius and Lithuania,” said Mačeika.
The complex will include not only the main stadium but also a sports museum, a 300-place kindergarten, a cultural center with a library, an athletics stadium, and football training fields. A modern sports center featuring facilities for basketball, handball, boxing, wrestling, and gymnastics will also be built.
A project of national importance
Vytis Žegužauskas, Head of Corporate Banking at Luminor, emphasized the importance of the development:
“We believe this carefully reviewed and evaluated project, developed by one of the most professional construction groups in the sector, will become a multifunctional sports complex that Vilnius can be proud of. We are honored to contribute to a project of such significance for the city’s sports and educational infrastructure.”
Hanner Chairman Arvydas Avulis added that the €100 million credit facility demonstrates strong confidence from both banks in the company and the project’s national importance:
“The granted loan confirms the trust of two major banks in Hanner and their belief in the success of this national project. It further motivates us to complete what we consider the project of the century,” said Avulis.
Opening planned for 2028
According to the project schedule, the majority of construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with the first sports events in the National Stadium anticipated during the 2028 football season. The stadium and other facilities are projected to attract more than 500,000 visitors annually, create hundreds of new jobs, and serve as a major venue for international sports and cultural events.
Construction is already underway – foundation piles have been reinforced, reinforced concrete structures are being installed, and the grandstand areas are taking shape. The project, with an overall value of approximately €156 million, is being implemented by Hanner, which took over the concession rights from the previous investor.
