Lithuania’s U21 team continued their 2027 European Championship qualifying campaign on Friday, falling 0-2 away to Turkey in their third group match.

The Lithuanians had started the campaign in the previous international window with a 0-4 loss to Ukraine and a 1-1 home draw against Hungary, with Nojus Audinis rescuing a late point for his team.

Friday’s opponent proved equally tough. At the Yeni Sakarya Atatürk Stadium, a motivated Turkish side awaited. Turkey had opened their campaign with a draw against Croatia U21 and were chasing their first win.

The breakthrough came just past the halfway mark of the first half, when Basar Onal converted one of Turkey’s chances to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. The remainder of the match was competitive and intense, with several yellow cards shown, but Lithuania struggled to create clear opportunities. Turkey sealed the victory late on, as Emirhan Ilkhan added a second goal, earning the hosts their first win of the qualifying cycle.

Lithuania now looks ahead to a friendly in the Netherlands on Tuesday, where they will face the Dutch U21 side.
