Karl Hein marked his Bundesliga debut for Werder Bremen on Friday evening in one of the league’s most unforgiving fixtures — away to champions Bayern Munich. The 23-year-old Estonian goalkeeper, who joined Werder in the summer, delivered a series of excellent saves but could not prevent a 0–4 defeat at the Allianz Arena.
Hein twice denied Harry Kane in the opening stages, first with a sharp one-on-one block after just six minutes and later with a quick reflex stop to keep the scoreline level. He also stood firm against efforts from Michael Olise, Mathys Tel and Jackson, ensuring the score did not become even more lopsided.
After the match, Hein reflected on the occasion with pride: “It is really an honour for me to have made my debut for Werder. We tried everything. But Bayern just have too much quality. They had so many chances, and we also wanted to get into good finishing positions ourselves. We have to put this game behind us now, look forward, and do better. We have the chance to do that next week.”
Head coach Horst Steffen admitted Bayern’s superiority: “They were too strong for us today and deserved the win,” he said, while captain Marco Friedl praised his new keeper’s efforts: “Karl kept us in the game with sensational saves.”
The match itself was defined by Bayern’s cutting edge: goals from Luis Díaz (22’), a Kane penalty (45’), another from Kane (65’), and Konrad Laimer (87’) sealed the victory. Despite Werder showing more ambition after half-time, their attacking play lacked the precision needed to trouble the champions.
