Latvian champions FC RFS have confirmed the signing of 22-year-old Dutch-Surinamese attacking winger Tayrell Wouter, who arrives from Apollon Limassol of the Cypriot top division.
Born in Amsterdam, Wouter is no stranger to Baltic football, having previously featured for Lithuanian side Be1 in the Pirma Lyga (second tier) before moving to FC Dila in Georgia last year. He joined Apollon in January for a reported transfer fee of €250,000, making 11 appearances across all competitions and scoring once.
Having done well in Georgia, Wouter did not impress on Cyprus, only playing a full 90 minutes once during his brief tenure with Apollon whilst failing to outcompete Ghanian U-20 international Duodu for playing time.
A product of the FC Twente and Go Ahead Eagles youth systems in the Netherlands, Wouter has been on RFS’s radar for several weeks, with rumours of his potential move circulating since mid-June. While the transfer fee was not disclosed, it was rumoured that RFS was offering EUR 500,000.00 for Wouter – half going to Apollon and half to FC Dila, who retain 50% of the rights to the 22-year-old winger.
