Žalgiris with a win move into the Top 3, Hegelmann lose important point at home

The Lithuanian A Lyga wrapped up its 30th round with contrasting matches in Telšiai and Raudondvaris. In Telšiai, FK Žalgiris battled past Džiugas 2-1, while the final fixture of the round saw FC Hegelmann and FK Banga Gargždai share the points after a tense 0-0 draw.

At Telšiai City Stadium, Žalgiris proved more clinical in front of goal, securing a narrow but important victory to climb into third place in the standings.

The capital side struck first in the 16th minute, when Liviu Antal set up Motiejus Burba, who netted his second goal in as many matches. Džiugas pushed back, with Ibrahima Cissé heading just wide and Denys Bunchukov testing Žalgiris keeper Carlos Olses, before Bacary Sané equalized in the 37th minute with a powerful header from a set piece.

The second half brought the decisive moment – Džiugas’ defensive lapse allowed Burba to find Antal, whose composed finish into the far corner restored Žalgiris’ lead. Despite late pressure from the home side, Žalgiris held firm to secure all three points.

The win lifted Žalgiris to 52 points, moving them up to third, while Džiugas stayed in sixth with 41 points.

Meanwhile, in Raudondvaris, the round concluded with a tightly contested 0-0 draw between Hegelmann and Banga. Both sides had their chances, but neither could find the breakthrough.

The visitors from Gargždai started brightly – in the 6th minute, Akpe Victory headed over following a corner. Moments later, Mantas Bertašius nearly gifted an opening to Rasheed Yusuf, but recovered in time to stop the threat.

Hegelmann responded midway through the half when Vincentas Šarkauskas denied Ignas Venckus, and Sherwin Seedorf’s strike went narrowly wide. At the other end, Vaidas Magdušauskas rattled the crossbar with a fierce shot after a pass from Seedorf.

The second half continued at the same tempo. Aaron Olugbodi came close for Banga, while Leo Ribeiro and Donatas Kazlauskas threatened for Hegelmann. In stoppage time, Kader Njoya Abdel missed a golden opportunity after Ribeiro’s effort was spilled by Bertašius, leaving both sides to settle for a point.

Hegelmann, now on 58 points, remain in the thick of the battle for second place, while Banga, with 33 points, stay eighth in the table.
