Vilnius Žalgiris have announced a major reinforcement, confirming the return of one of their former leaders, Paulius Golubickas, who has signed a long-term four-year contract with the Lithuanian champions. After a year abroad, the 26-year-old attacking midfielder is coming back home to once again wear the green and white jersey.

Golubickas terminated his contract by mutual agreement with Polish Ekstraklasa side Radomiak Radom just a few days ago. He had joined the Polish club in the winter of 2025, following an outstanding 2024 season with Žalgiris, during which he helped the club win the Lithuanian championship. That campaign saw him register 8 goals and 14 assists in 33 matches.

Last season, Golubickas initially played in the Ekstraklasa, featuring in 12 matches for Radomiak and providing one assist. With limited playing time not meeting his expectations, he spent the second half of the year on loan at Finnish club KuPS. His move to Finland proved successful, as KuPS went on to win the Finnish championship and the attacking player also competed in the UEFA Conference League phase.

A Lithuanian international with 39 caps and two goals for the national team, Golubickas now returns to domestic football. Over the course of his career in Lithuania, he has previously represented FK Sūduva Marijampolė and DFK Dainava Alytus, in addition to his earlier spell with Žalgiris.

Žalgiris sporting director Giedrius Klevinskas expressed his satisfaction with the signing, emphasizing both the sporting and symbolic importance of Golubickas’ return:

“This is a player whose quality and mentality fully match the DNA of Žalgiris. Paulius knows the club, its environment and expectations very well, so he will not need any adaptation, and his contribution on the pitch will likely be significant from the first days.

Paulius returns more mature, with international experience and a clear desire to take on responsibility. This is not only a sporting reinforcement for the team, but also an important signal to our fans – Žalgiris is pursuing ambitious goals both in Lithuania and in Europe, and football players of such a profile are a key part of this vision.

We are happy to see Paulius wearing the green and white jersey again and we believe that his return will strengthen the team’s creativity, competitiveness and overall quality of play.”
