In the 33rd round of Lithuania’s A Lyga, FK Žalgiris continued their unbeaten streak and moved closer to a European qualification spot, defeating FA Šiauliai 1-0 thanks to Liviu Antal’s goal – his seventh consecutive match on the scoresheet. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, FK Panevėžys secured a commanding 4-1 victory over FC Džiugas Telšiai, with three first-half goals paving the way.

Under Rolandas Džiaukštas, Žalgiris have now collected five wins and one draw in six matches, and this fixture carried added weight. Šiauliai entered the game six points behind Žalgiris, meaning victory could have kept their hopes of overtaking them – and finishing in the top three – alive. A loss, however, would effectively end their European ambitions.

The match opened energetically, with both sides trading dangerous attacks. Eligijus Jankauskas twice threatened Žalgiris goalkeeper Carlos Olses, but the Venezuelan shot-stopper stood firm. Moments later, Šiauliai keeper Gustas Baliutavičius was tested by Yury Kendysh, while Giedrius Matulevičius missed a golden opportunity from close range.

Soon after, Daniel Romanovskij delivered a perfect pass to Nedas Garbaliauskas, yet the striker failed to find the target.

In the 26th minute, Romanian forward Liviu Antal once again proved decisive – controlling the ball neatly before striking it into the net to give Žalgiris the lead.

Early in the second half, chaos ensued in the Šiauliai penalty area, but their defenders managed to block Motiejus Burba’s shot. Later, Eligijus Jankauskas tried his luck from distance, forcing Olses into another alert save.

With this win, Rolandas Džiaukštas’ side remain third in the table with 59 points, while Šiauliai sit fifth with 50 points.

Elsewhere, FK Panevėžys laid the foundation for a comfortable victory away to FC Džiugas Telšiai with a dominant first half. Goals from Elivelton, Rokas Rasimavičius, and Lucas De Vega put the visitors 3-0 up before the break.

In the second half, both teams scored once more – Ibrahim Cisse converted a penalty for the hosts, but Ariagner Smith sealed the result for Panevėžys with a 4-1 win.

This marked Panevėžys’ first victory over Džiugas Telšiai this season, further boosting their strong campaign finish.
