Matchday 13 of the TOPsport A Lyga kicks off today with two fixtures. FK Banga Gargždai will host the in-form FK Panevėžys, while FK Kauno Žalgiris and FA Šiauliai face off in the match of the round, each looking to end the other’s winning streak.
Tonight’s fixture in Gargždai sees two sides on contrasting trajectories meet in what could be a season-defining showdown. Banga, currently 8th in the table, has struggled with consistency all season. Following a dip in form with two consecutive losses, they’re aiming to bounce back and potentially leap two spots if they secure three points. But injuries continue to plague David Afonso’s squad—key players Rokas Filipavičius, Nouri El Harmazi, and Aaron Olugbogi are out, and Natanas Žebrauskas remains doubtful after being forced off last match. To complicate matters, defender Deividas Malžinskas is suspended.
On the other side, FK Panevėžys arrives in stronger form, riding a four-game unbeaten streak and buoyed by three consecutive clean sheets. They currently sit 6th with 17 points. However, they’re not without problems—midfielder Domantas Vaičekauskas is suspended, and Jerome Simon’s season is over due to a ruptured Achilles. Injuries to defenders Linas Klimavičius and Abdoul Dante thin the backline, but an increasingly effective attack could carry them through.
Across the country, Kaunas will host a high-octane encounter between the league’s top-scoring sides.
Kauno Žalgiris is flying high after two impressive wins over FK Žalgiris, firmly staking their claim as title contenders. The spotlight tonight is on Dejan Georgijević, who broke a two-month scoring drought in spectacular style with a four-goal haul in the capital. Coach Eivinas Černiauskas now faces a pleasant dilemma: start the red-hot Georgijević or stick with top scorer Romualdas Jansonas. With squad rotation likely after a midweek match, expect some fresh legs but no drop in ambition.
Meanwhile, FA Šiauliai have quietly built momentum, winning three of their last four and sitting just three points off the top three. However, they’ll be tested tonight. Defender Marko Mandić is suspended, but the return of Eligijus Jankauskas and Nikita Komissarov strengthens their depth. Notably, Šiauliai have found the net in every game this season—except against Hegelmann.
In the first meeting between these two teams this season, FK Kauno Žalgiris secured a comeback 3–2 win over FA Šiauliai in a very entertaining match at the end of March, with Amine Benchaib scoring the game-winning goal in the latter part of the second half.
