Telšiai’s Džiugas further strengthened their position in the TOPLYGA table with a narrow 1-0 away victory over FA Šiauliai in Matchday 8, continuing their impressive start to the season.
The first half offered little in terms of clear chances, although the return of key players Lukas Ankudinovas and Ronaldas Sobowale added stability and quality to the visitors’ play. Denis Ževžikovas showed flashes of danger in the box, but Šiauliai managed to deal with his efforts.
After the break, the tempo increased significantly. Džiugas goalkeeper Marius Paukštė was called into action to deny Divine Naah, while Gabriel Micevičius fired wide on the rebound. Later in the half Paukštė produced an important save to stop Daniel Romanovskij from close range.
At the other end, Šiauliai’s young goalkeeper Paulius Linkevičius also stepped up, reacting well after a defensive error by Lazar Vuković to deny Ibrahim Cissé.
With both sides pushing for a winner, it was Džiugas who found the decisive moment. In the third minute of stoppage time, Deitonas Vinckus broke forward on the counterattack and fired home a powerful finish to secure all three points.
The result sees Džiugas climb to second place with 17 points, while Šiauliai remain ninth with five points.
