Viimsi will again target promotion to Estonia’s Premium liiga after appointing Andres Oper and Arli Salm as joint head coaches for the new Esiliiga season.
The duo take over following Ivo Lehtmets’ decision to step down at the end of last season after nine years in charge. Lehtmets remains involved at the club, shifting his focus towards monitoring and supporting youth players as they move towards senior football, while also helping to coordinate training processes.
Oper and Salm said the coaching set-up will be built around shared responsibility rather than strict divisions. “We are trying to avoid it being ‘he decides this and I decide that’ – the key word is ‘we’,” Salm said.
He added that goalkeeper coach Martin Kaalma and Lehtmets will also contribute to selection discussions. “If there are different opinions, everything is put on the table and we can find the best solution based on all the thoughts and ideas,” Salm noted.
Viimsi have primarily strengthened their squad through their own academy pathway, though the club also expects two Ghanaian players to join.
