**Ovidijus Verbickas, who captained the A Lyga champions, Vilnius Žalgiris, has extended his contract with the country’s strongest club.**

The 31-year-old midfielder will be entering his fifth consecutive season with Žalgiris. He joined the capital city club in 2021 after spending a year in the Kazakhstan Premier League.

“_The past year was special for me personally because I served as the team captain for the first time. There were many new challenges and responsibilities,_” said Verbickas. _“It wasn’t difficult to decide on a new contract. The club’s ambitions and goals align with my own. I believe that next year, together with the club and the team, we can achieve many significant victories and return to the main stage of UEFA tournaments.”_ the Žalgiris captain said to the club statement.

Verbickas has 36 caps for the Lithuanian National Team. This season, he made 33 appearances in the A Lyga, scoring two goals and providing four assists. Overall, he has played 158 matches and scored 11 goals for Žalgiris in all official tournaments.
