Following a loss to Nõmme Kalju in the second Railway Derby of the season, FC Flora head coach and club legend Konstantin Vassiljev reflected on the match.
Second lap of Premium liiga 2025 started off with Nõmme Kalju pulling off a late-game winner against one of the leading clubs in the Baltics – FC Flora. Tied 1-1 at half time, Kalju’s Kristjan Kask scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute to take the second Railway Derby for his team. As Flora won the first derby of the season 2-1, the two clubs are now tied.
Speaking to ERR after the game, FC Flora head coach Konstantin Vassiljev commented:
We had a very good start to the game but then the opponents picked up in the second half and put us off our rhythm. It seemed like the game was heading for a draw and we had some chances to re-take the lead but we have to look at ourselves, why we conceded. Despite this, I would say that this was a good game between equally matched opponents and the difference between this and last time is that we had luck on our side back then. The league is a long-term competition and we focus on one game at a time, give it our all in every next match. I think we gave it our all today but, unfortunately, that was not enough to win.
Vassiljev continued to explain that he wants his team to be more effective on the ball and to leverage the individual strengths of his players. While there is still room for improvement, he acknowledged, Vassiljev believes that the team will continue to improve.
Flora will face Pärnu Vaprus on Friday and Kalju will seek to pull off another giant-killing against table-leaders and defending Champions Levadia on Sunday. Both games will be available to watch on YouTube free of charge.
