Pärnu Vaprus overturned a two-goal deficit to beat Baltic Football News title favourites Paide 3-2 in the opening round of the Premium liiga, with Sten Jakob Viidas scoring twice to complete a second-half comeback.
After a goalless first half on the Rehepapi artificial pitch, Paide struck twice in four minutes early in the second period. Henri Anier created both goals, first setting up Modou Sohna in the 55th minute before teeing up Ramon Smirnov on 59 minutes to make it 2-0.
Vaprus responded almost immediately as Mark Anders Lepik’s work down the flank led to Viidas pulling one back on 62 minutes. “Epic Lepik” then won a penalty following a lengthy VAR check and Henri Välja converted on 79 minutes to level the match.
The home side completed the turnaround on 83 minutes when Lepik again provided the assist and Viidas drove his finish in off the underside of the bar.
Both clubs now turn their attention to the Tipner Cup quarter-finals in midweek, with Vaprus facing Welco and Paide meeting Kalev. Vaprus return to league action next week against newcomers Nõmme United, while Paide host Narva Trans.
