In the final match of Premium Liiga Round 29, Pärnu Vaprus secured a 1-0 victory over Tallinna Kalev, extending their remarkable late-season run. Yet the result was overshadowed by a frightening late injury to striker Kevin Kauber, who had to be stretchered off after a heavy collision.
The decisive moment came in the 37th minute when Matthias Limberg rose above Hindrek Ojamaa to meet Tristan Pajo’s corner, powering a header into the bottom corner. Despite Kalev enjoying more of the ball, they struggled to create clear chances, while Vaprus proved far more efficient.
The second half brought both drama and concern. Striker Kevin Kauber twice came close to doubling Vaprus’ lead, with his second chance ending agonizingly as the ball rolled inches wide. Worse still, Kauber picked up an injury in the same incident and had to leave the field on a stretcher, prompting urgent medical attention. The scene appeared frightening, with fears of a serious blow to his throat, but as he was carried off in the 90th minute, Kauber raised a thumbs-up to the crowd, earning warm applause.
Later in the evening, Vaprus confirmed that the forward had suffered a concussion and a split lip requiring stitches inside and out, but he was released from hospital the same night – a huge relief for both his teammates and supporters.
The result marked Vaprus’ seventh win in their last eight league matches, cutting the gap to fifth-placed Narva Trans to just two points. For Kalev, however, the defeat extended their losing streak to six games, leaving them bottom of the table and seven points adrift of FC Kuressaare.
