According to Azerbaijani journalist Fuad Alakbarov, well-regarded Lithuanian coach Valdas Dambrauskas has found his next challenge, just days after parting ways with Hungarian side DVTK.
The 48-year-old didn’t wait long to chart his next move, with reports indicating that FC Sabah are closing in on his appointment. The Azerbaijani club is looking to build on a mixed 2024/25 campaign, where they finished fifth in the league but triumphed in the Azerbaijani Cup, defeating local giants Qarabag in the final. That cup victory secured Sabah a spot in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers.
In the qualifiers, FC Sabah are set to face NK Celje from Slovenia. The matchup promises added intrigue for Lithuanian fans, as Artemijus Tutyškinas and Armandas Kučys, both Lithuanian internationals, are part of the Celje squad.
Dambrauskas will be looking to make an immediate impact in Baku and guide Sabah to new heights on the local and European stage.
