Hungarian club Diósgyőri VTK (DVTK) has wasted no time in confirming the rumors, as Lithuanian coach Valdas Dambrauskas has officially taken charge of the team. DVTK’s recent 0-4 defeat to Budapest MTK led to the dismissal of former head coach Vladimir Radenković, with Dambrauskas stepping in as his replacement.

“We constantly monitor the market, not only for players who fit our football philosophy but also for top-level sports professionals,” said DVTK sporting director Horváth Csengeris. “We have been tracking several coaches based on their playing style, experience, and career trajectory, and when the time came to make a decision, our thorough selection process helped narrow down the candidates. One of our top choices was multilingual Valdas Dambrauskas, whose age and experience align perfectly with our vision. Moreover, he met our expectations due to his background in managing big clubs and his ability to handle pressure. While we view Diósgyőr as a long-term project, it is crucial to be able to manage immediate challenges as well.”

Csengeris highlighted that Dambrauskas’ approach to integrating new technologies and data-driven decision-making played a significant role in securing his appointment. “After numerous negotiations, including video conferences and in-person meetings, we got to know each other professionally and personally. Ultimately, I am pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement on all aspects, and Valdas Dambrauskas has signed a contract until the summer of 2027.”

Expressing his enthusiasm, Dambrauskas stated, “I am eager to start working at this club with a rich history. It was immediately clear how passionate the fanbase is, and throughout the negotiations, I became convinced of the great potential for development here. I hope to leave behind a legacy worth remembering. In football, everyone has short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals, so do I. The team is going through a challenging period, and the primary goal is to restore the players’ confidence through positive energy, which will translate into results on the pitch. Over the past few days, I have been analyzing past matches to better understand the squad. Now that the contract is signed, everything in the club will gain momentum as I work on executing our long-term vision. However, the immediate priority is to establish a clear direction for the players and turn our vision into reality on the field.”

Dambrauskas had been without a club since last autumn when he was dismissed by Omonia Nicosia. Over his career, he has managed several clubs, including Panevėžys Ekranas, Vilnius Žalgiris, RFS Riga, Gorica, Hajduk Split, Ludogorets Razgrad, and OFI Crete.

Currently, DVTK sits in fifth place in the Hungarian league standings with 31 points, and the club hopes that Dambrauskas’ leadership will propel them to even greater success.
