Estonia head coach Jürgen Henn says the defensive lineup is set for Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Israel—but he’s not naming names. With several key players missing, Estonia tested multiple combinations in training. “We’re optimistic, but it’ll take hard work,” said Henn, emphasizing the home crowd’s importance. Kickoff at A. Le Coq Arena is 21:45.

On the eve of Estonia’s home World Cup qualifier against Israel, national team head coach Jürgen Henn confirmed that his defensive lineup is decided — but he’s keeping it under wraps.

“Yes, it’s set,” Henn smiled at the pre-match press conference. “But don’t ask who!”

While Estonia will be forced to field an unusual backline due to injuries, Henn isn’t panicking. The coaching staff have tested multiple defensive combinations in training to ensure adaptability.

“We tried different setups to see how the players respond alongside one another,” he explained. “Understanding improved with every session — this week was important.”

Most of the squad is healthy. “About 99% fit,” Henn noted. “There are still a few uncertainties, but that’s always the case. We’ll know more after training — or even on matchday.”

Reflecting on Estonia’s March match against Israel — a game where Estonia led but ultimately lost — Henn said the team must learn to turn narrow defeats into results.

“We’ve often been close against stronger sides. Performance-wise the gap was clear, but we’ve had chances,” he said. “We’re working to tilt those one-goal losses in our favor.”

Asked by Israeli media who the favorite is, Henn struck a hopeful tone.

“We’re optimistic. Israel are a very strong team, but we’ve prepared well and hope we’ve found the right moves. Playing at home gives us an edge — the fans’ support makes a real difference.”

Both teams are dealing with key absences. Estonia will be without several starters, including Karol Mets, while Israel’s star Manor Solomon (Tottenham/Leeds) is doubtful.

“Solomon shaped a lot of the last game. He’s a key threat,” Henn acknowledged. “But if you focus too much on one player, others step up. We’re missing leaders too, but this isn’t the time to dwell on it. The group here has trained well.”

Estonia will face a star-studded Norway on Monday, but Henn insists full focus is on Friday night.

“We’re not thinking about Norway yet. First comes Israel. Of course, two matches in quick succession require energy — and we’ll be ready.”

Estonia vs. Israel kicks off tomorrow, Friday at 21:45 local time at A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn.
