# TransINVEST keep medal hopes alive with victory over Hegelmann
**TransINVEST kept their hopes of securing a medal finish in Lithuania’s Toplyga alive with a 2-0 home victory over Hegelmann in the opening match of the 34th round. Goals from Mykola Musolitin and Xabi Auzmendi secured all three points for the Vilnius district side, who remain firmly in contention for a top-three finish with 49 points.**

The encounter in Galinė brought together two teams experiencing contrasting fortunes this season. While TransINVEST entered the match looking to strengthen their position in the race for European qualification, Hegelmann were hoping to improve on a disappointing campaign that has left them near the bottom of the standings.

The hosts wasted little time establishing their advantage, opening the scoring in just the fourth minute. Auzmendi made a dangerous run into the penalty area and directed a header against the woodwork, with Musolitin reacting quickest to the rebound and turning the ball into the net.

TransINVEST almost doubled their lead shortly afterwards when a defensive mistake from Hegelmann presented Auzmendi with an excellent opportunity. However, goalkeeper Rokas Bagdonavičius came to the visitors’ rescue with an important save.

Hegelmann struggled to create meaningful opportunities in response, although Esmilis Kaušinis attempted to restore parity midway through the first half with a long-range strike that drifted wide of the target.

Despite the early goal, the remainder of the opening 45 minutes produced few clear-cut chances, with TransINVEST maintaining their narrow advantage heading into the interval.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with neither side creating much in front of goal during the opening stages. Hegelmann eventually threatened in the 72nd minute when Donatas Kazlauskas delivered a dangerous ball into the penalty area. Domas Slendzoka found himself with an opportunity to equalise, but TransINVEST goalkeeper Igor Mostovei was equal to the task, preventing the visitors from drawing level.

With Hegelmann pushing forward in search of an equaliser, the hosts began finding more space in attack. Chidera Henry Nwoga had an excellent opportunity to put the result beyond doubt approximately ten minutes later, but Bagdonavičius produced another important save to keep his side in contention.

The visitors continued searching for a way back into the contest, and Til Mavretic created a promising opportunity for Nana Akosah-Bempah in the closing stages. However, the latter narrowly failed to find the target.

Any remaining hopes of a Hegelmann comeback were extinguished during stoppage time when TransINVEST finally secured their second goal. Denis Bosnjak delivered an excellent pass into the penalty area, where Auzmendi arrived to finish the move and seal a deserved 2-0 victory.

The result moves TransINVEST onto 49 points and keeps them firmly involved in the battle for a medal finish as the Lithuanian championship approaches its conclusion.
