TOPSport A Lyga today unveiled the standout performers for the month of June — and for the second month in a row it was a big one for FK Kauno Žalgiris, as both the Player of the Month and Manager of the Month awards went to the league leaders.
30-year-old Lithuanian international midfielder Gratas Sirgedas was named June Player of the Month after a string of influential performances. In four matches during the month, Sirgedas recorded two goals and two assists, helping solidify his club’s grip on first place.
His two goals — both stunning long-range strikes — came in a crucial 2–1 victory over Hegelmann FC, a direct rival in the title race. The only match in which Sirgedas was held off the scoresheet was a goalless draw against FK Sūduva.
FK Kauno Žalgiris head coach Eivinas Černiauskas took home the Manager of the Month honor for a second consecutive month. The 40-year-old, in his debut season managing the club, has led his side to the summit of the table — currently six points clear of their nearest challengers Hegelmann FC and FK Sūduva.
In June, Černiauskas guided his team to an impressive three victories: a 2–1 win over Hegelmann FC, a 3–0 triumph over FK Panevėžys, and a 2–0 result against FK Banga Gargždai. The only dropped points came in the aforementioned 0–0 draw with Sūduva.
DFK Dainava Alytus striker Krystian Okoniewski was recognized as Young Player of the Month after an explosive June. The 20-year-old Polish forward — on loan from recently relegated Puszcza of the Polish Ekstraklasa — had just one goal in nine appearances prior to June. But in just three matches last month, he bagged four goals.
His standout performance came in a thrilling draw against title contenders Hegelmann FC, where he netted twice. He added two more goals in a 2-1 win over FK Banga Gargždai, a result that ended Dainava’s 15-game winless run and marked their first victory of the season.
Now with five goals in 13 matches, Okoniewski has become a key figure in DFK Dainava’s push to climb away from the bottom of the standings after a dismal start to the season.
